This drawing was made for a Diploma design project set it Monpazier in the Dorgogne. The town is one of the most complete bastides in the area, miniature cities dotted about the medieval landscape as statements of influence by the French and English monarchies.
My design work proposed rehabilitating the existing Place de l’Église by extending it to the east into unused land and lining it with new buildings. This drawing shows the elevation of the proposed additions to the north side of Saint Dominique with the tower, transept and apse of the church visible behind. The proposal takes its cue from the adjacent market square with an open arcade at ground level. The elevation hints at a collage of elements that could be untangled in a number of different ways.
